Middle School

Just A Reminder: Last week of school. Monday will be the Steward Ship Buddies Party for 7A/K4. Past week has been a combination of Bible Stories and nautical themed activities culminating in some bonding time with your buddy.
Tues. 5th grade will shadow Middle School homerooms in the morning. Afternoon- regular classes. steward Ship Party- 6B and 3B
Wed. Teacher Inservice- Records Day
Thurs. Clean, School Picnic
Fri. Mass, clean out desks and lockers. Adoration today; please leave church silently.
Course Content
The Religion series we use at Christ King is published by Resources for Christian Living.
The elementary grades through sixth grade are part of this continuing series. Seventh and eighth grade are a separate, but coordinating program. The entire religion series is called Faith First. Sixth grade will use a single text. Seventh and eighth grades will use one textbook per semester. All material covered will be in accordance to the Exit Expectations for each grade as outlined by the Milwaukee Archdiocese for Religious Education.
Based on this series, the content of each grade level course is as follows:
6th Grade

Liturgical Seasons
We will also study the liturgical seasons as they occur through discussion, participation and projects. In addition, we will study feast days, days of obligation and ordinary time. Class includes possible field trips and a retreat.
7th Grade
1st semester- Sacraments
Doctrine and Scripture:
A. There will be an in depth study of each of the Sacraments. Each Sacrament is introduced with a scripture story from the New Testament that is relevant in the study of that Sacrament.
2nd semester- Church History
B. Brief overview of the history of the Church beginning with Acts and continuing through the Second Vatican Council.
Throughout the year we will be studying ordinary time, Advent and Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, Easter and the Triduum, the Easter season following and Pentecost. As above, we will also study feast days, days of obligation and local religious events. Class includes a retreat, possible field trips and class projects.
8th grade
1st semester- Jesus in the New Testament
Doctrine and Scripture:
A. Study of the New Covenant, Divine Revelation, The Blessed Trinity, Gospels
2nd semester- Mystery of God
A. The fall of man and the story of salvation through the promise of a Savior, the Paschal Mystery, Pentecost and Christs plan for the Church. The Gospels: a study of Jesus Christ, the Letters of Paul.
The Liturgical Year
A review of the general topics taught in 6th and 7th grade will be mentioned. Current religious events in the media through television, print and announcements during mass will be discussed. Again, we will study events in ordinary time, Christmas, Lent, Easter and Pentecost. We will further study certain feast days, experience 2 field trips- one in the fall, one in the spring and an occasional field trip.
Especially important this year will be an emphasis on Saint Paul as this is the year of the saint as decreed by Pope Benedict XVI.
Grading and Assignments
Assignments must be done neatly, completely and handed in on time.
Quizzes and tests will be announced in advance with a review session prior to the test.
However, focused out of class time will be necessary to master the material.
8th grade students (2nd semester) will be journaling their thoughts as it pertains to a serious personal relationship with God.
6th grade:

Service hours are required and count as an assignment. Five hours are considered minimal effort and 20 hours advanced. Once a student has earned 20 hours of credit, he/she can obtain additional hours for extra credit to lift a grade near the next grade level or to enhance an existing grade.
All students must bring daily their textbook, folder for handouts, and journal (7th and 8th grade). An erasable pen in also required as students will make entries directly into their textbooks on the spaces provided. Students are to bring in their Bibles. They may be kept on the shelves provided in the classroom.
