MORE ABOUT QLL CHARITY NIGHT

The President and the Committee of the Quiz League of London thanks you for your interest in our Charity Night.

Some FAQ’s about our Annual Charity Night

Is this a new event?
No! The Quiz League of London has been supporting charities ever since we were formed back in 1990. Since then, we have raised THOUSANDS OF POUNDS for a wide variety of causes(and had a good night's quizzing as well!).

Is it terribly competitive?
Only in the sense that there are lots of competitions going on simultaneously. The Quiz League of London are going flat out for the Charity Shield (kindly donated by Pridie Brewster),the Division Two teams CAN win a prize, office teams can play each other if they let us know they want to do that, there is a special prize for the highest placed team from another charity, and if your team does not fit into any of those categories, perhaps you will be the best guest team. There is also a booby prize for the team that comes last!

Is it like a pub quiz night?
Similar, but without any of the dubious practices and controversy you find in that world. The important difference is that we recognise there is a heck of a gap between people who play our game of Team Quizzing and those who turn up for special events like this. That’s why we operate a “handicap system” with a scale of bonus points. Those are on the entry form but to put it simply, each member of your TEAM of FOUR is allocated a start score relating to their quiz experience. For example, a complete newcomer gets FOUR points and so a team of tyros hits the ground running with a score of SIXTEEN.

But are the questions difficult?
Well that's a difficult question in itself! (If you buy my book Playing From Memory you can read a lot about what "difficult" means.) We have a hugely experienced question setter in Peter Deakin from the Warrington Quiz League who has been setting for this event for years. [Thanks, Peter!] There is something for everybody in the 80 questions and there are rounds where it is easy to give an answer because you have a choice.

We don't quiz regularly. Can we get some practice?
Then why not try Team Quizzing? It's a great game and a good social scene on Tuesdays. BUT that's not what you asked! We can let you have a copy of some past questions or come to one of the fixtures of QLL, say who you are and you'll be very welcome

Does the Quiz League of London make money out of this?
Definitely not! We are not in the business of running quizzes for money (unlike the people who set quizzes for pubs etc) and we make no charge to our chosen charity.
What do we do now?
These events are often packed out!, [we even had to turn people away one year!] so the best thing to do is reserve a table NOW by contacting Phil Smith but whatever you do BE THERE BY 7.30
See you!
