Quizzes have been part of life for as long as anyone can remember but here is the first book devoted to playing in and organising quiz matches. Written by a hugely experienced player of Team Quizzing, a tough and testing Mind Sport, here is a book which has something for experienced quizzers and the uninitiated alike.
In this chatty but informative book, which includes a playlet to introduce strangers to Team Quizzing, the author draws on his experience with several teams and leagues to give tips on improving team and individual performance and provides a detailed guide to good question setting. As befits a man who has won three different individual competitions, the book also covers these, giving a helpful guide to anyone wishing to run one.
Throughout, Donald draws on his sports background in rugby and cricket to indicate parallels between the sedentary activity of quizzing and the more vigorous sports. With many personal anecdotes, Donald also covers topics such as: making money from quizzes; appearing on TV shows; and cheating.
The book is arranged in an unusual manner being made up of “Rounds”, as in a Team Quiz match, the titles themselves forming a quiz. There is a large and helpful appendix with sample sets of questions, the Rules of Team Quizzing, a Code of Practice for Question Masters and a model constitution for anyone who has been inspired by this book to set up their own quiz league.
