ETA SIGMA ALPHA HONOR SOCIETY

Welcome to the Eta Sigma Alpha Honor Society Webpage! These are our honor society members working at the Laura Recovery Center in Friendswood, Tx. They are putting together DNA test kits.

MISSION STATEMENT

Eta Sigma Alpha is the charter honor society in the homeschool world. Its membership requires outstanding academic achievement and examples of higher education. The mission of Eta Sigma Alpha is to form integrity in students through four aspects: leadership, community service, networking, and scholarship. Through academic leadership, a student is inducted into the society, and he is expected within the society to show leadership in the community. This is done through community service. Members are to seek out community service projects in order to give back to the community in which they live. Networking is gained by the members from each other; like minded students who share the common interests of the honor society mission. The final aspect, scholarship, is formed by the society for a member whose achievements have surpassed the regulations of Eta Sigma Alpha.

REQUIREMENTS FOR MEMBERSHIP

The Home Education Partnership is pleased to sponsor a home school honor society, Eta Sigma Alpha. This honor society services students who are enrolled in classes through the Home Education Partnership’s initiative with the San Jacinto College District. Eta Sigma Alpha promotes scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Membership is available to any 10-12th grade student enrolled in HEP classes who also meets the academic requirements of the honor society. Initiation into the honor society will be during the spring semester. Thus, the student will actually hold membership during his/her 11th and/or 12th grade years.

The honor society will recruit and induct new members each spring semester. There are several requirements for membership. First, the student must be currently enrolled in and attending a HEP class. Secondly, the student must have a 3.5 grade point average on a four-point scale. A parent prepared transcript must accompany the membership application. Thirdly, the student must provide proof of test scores, either from the Stanford, California, or Iowa Achievement Tests (90% in grade 9 or up) or from the PSAT (120 - verbal/math), SAT (1200) or ACT (26). The applicant must list the names and addresses of five different individuals who know him/her personally and would be willing to provide a recommendation on his/her behalf. HEP will solicit recommendations from these references. HEP cannot accept the letters from the applicant. Lastly, the applicant must attach a short statement about why he/she would like to be a member of Eta Sigma Alpha.

Membership in Eta Sigma Alpha will be a great opportunity for our home school scholars to be rewarded for their academic successes. We hope that you will choose to apply for this honor. If you have any questions about the honor society or about the application, please do not hesitate to contact me.
