SOBRIETY HOUSE
News Letter
Sobriety House is a Treatment center for adult men addicted to drugs and/or alcohol.
Charitable registration No. 0564948-57-10.
I would like to introduce myself. My name is Robert Paré. I’m the Director of Fund Raising and Business Development for Sobriety House, a treatment centre for adult men addicted to drugs and/or alcohol.
This is a newly-created position, a situation brought about primarily by a lack of life-giving provincial funding.
Before going any further as to the intent of this letter, let me first explain our mission statement. The aim of our treatment centre is to provide a safe, home-like atmosphere where adult men addicted to drugs and/or alcohol can begin their recovery and lead productive lives.
My purpose in writing to you is to help me raise the profile of Sobriety House and publicize our fund-raising campaign. I’ve had a fair amount of media exposure in recent months and the word getting back to me from those who interviewed me is that I’m “pretty good copy.” For example, here are some quotable quotes:
“Alcoholism is a huge problem. In Ontario alone, seven per cent of the adult population drinks more than one litre a day.”

“Most of us know somebody who has benefited from a recovery home.”
Dave Brown Interview
The Ottawa Citizen
“With operational costs of more than $250,000 a year
its (Sobriety House) funding covers only the most basic of needs.”
Susan Sherring Interview,
Ottawa Sun
“If you go on Ottawa’s Byward Market you will see people from all walks of life living on the streets and it’s mostly because of their addictions.”

“If we don’t get help soon we will be facing the prospect of closing our doors.”

“The amount of funding Sobriety House receives from the Province of Ontario is pitiful”.

"We need the help of our community in order to survive, unfortunatly Addiction is a problem that people tend to sweep under the carpet"

Sobriety House has been around for almost 20 years. We have helped people from all walks of life. Many of our clients have said openly that the treatment and care they received here saved their lives, jobs and family life. They have overcome their addictions, learned new life skills and regained the respect of their loved ones.
Sobriety House wants to continue being a vital part of the community. However, we suffer from “chronic under funding.”
We receive $32.00 a day per resident from the Ontario Ministry of Health. We need $60.00 to just survive and that does not include the need for a few more counsellors to implement some very basic programs like family support. We need office furniture and the 100-year-old building has to renovated.
Please feel free to contact me. I can be reached at (613) 233-0828.
Yours truly,
Robert Pare,
Director of Fund Raising
and Business Development
COMMENTS FROM CLIENTS
I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for all your help. You helped in times when I felt I had no one to turn to. You helped to show me that a sober happy life is within my reach. The time you spent showing me how to meditate was very much appreciated and I will use it in my everyday life. You are an inspiration.
Thanks
S.
