Carbon Footprint

Your Carbon Footprint and Global Warming.

At this time, the Carbon content of the Atmosphere is around 382 ppm, according to our scientists, when this level reaches around 400 ppm,
Earth Changes become irreversible, and continue at will, and we'll not be able to do a thing about it, Earth Systems will run wild.
To have any hope of reducing CO2 output and surviving these changes, Mankind must change it's ways, and very very soon.

The Graph in the image above ( will be replaced soon ) indicates that in 1995, Carbon Dioxide was present in the Atmosphere in quantities of close on 360 parts per million, today's scientific approximation is 382ppm.

This being the best reason to Use Less Energy, and Generate Wind/Solar Energy at home, besides becoming self-reliant and caring that is.

Carbon Dioxide Concentrations in the Atmosphere.

The concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, were measured in the bubbles from an Antarctic ice core from Law Dome near Australia's Casey Station. The Law Dome ice core is at a location where the snow accumulation is much higher than at Vostok. Thus, the time scale for the Law Dome core is expanded and it can provide us with more detailed information about recent climate changes.

Measurements from other ice cores and tree rings from all around the world show us CO2 Spikes, which help validated these findings, but have been kept from the general public until recently.{Ed.} Read More.

CO2 Trends:

The atmospheric CO2 reconstructions presented here offer records of atmospheric CO2 mixing ratios from 1006 A.D. to 1978 A.D. The air enclosed in the three ice cores from Law Dome, Antarctica has unparalled age resolution and extends into recent decades, because of the high rate of snow accumulation at the Law Dome drill sites (Etheridge et al. 1996). Etheridge et al. (1996) reported the uncertainty of the ice core CO2 mixing ratios is 1.2 ppm. Preindustrial CO2 mixing ratios were in the range 275-284 ppm, with the lower levels during 1550-1800 A.D., probably as a result of colder global climate (Etheridge et al. 1996). The Law Dome ice core CO2 records show major growth in atmospheric CO2 levels over the industrial period, except during 1935-1945 A.D. when levels stabilized or decreased slightly. Read More

Present Day Concentrations of Carbon Dioxide in the Atmosphere:

Mauna Loa is a mountain on the island of Hawaii. The data collected at Mauna Loa has demonstrated conclusively that the amount of carbon-dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere is rising rapidly. Carbon dioxide is an invisible gas that is harmless to humans. In fact, we breathe out carbon dioxide every time we breath. Both carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are produced by burning fossil fuels (gas, coal,and oil).

The Mauna Loa carbon dioxide data set is the largest continuous record, 35 years, in existence of atmospheric carbon-dioxide. Unfortunately, this is still a very short time on the scale that climate is often studied, which can span thousands of years. One of the most arresting facts about the data is how fast the levels of CO2 is climbing. The speed or rate of change (about 1.2 ppm per year) is widely believed to unparalleled in the history of the earth.

Take a look at the Math: {Ed.}

Results from Mauna Loa in June 2003 show a concentration of 375.61ppm. from 373.07ppm in 2002, a rise of 2.54ppm in one year.
See Manua Loa Monthly Figure Graph Here starting from 1959 when the level was 316ppm.

Lets work this out, take a low starting point of a conservative 355ppm, multiply 1.2ppm per year by 40 years = 48ppm, + 335ppm = 403ppm, taking us beyond the crunch point of over 400ppm of CO2. with these findings by the year 2045.
Unfortunately, CO2 emissions are to increase due to raising standards of expectation in developing countries such as China and India for example, and the lack of interest in cut-backs by most of us in the Wesrern World.

Not wishing to spread doom and gloom, but with today's CO2 concentration being more in the region of 382ppm, a more realistic outlook, taking into account that CO2 levels are now in fact rising faster than ever before, and have risen in excess of 2ppm per year since 2002, we would arrive at the year 2016 as being the borderline should we not take action NOW.

This brings a Real Paradox, some of the most benign of states, ecologically speaking, in the past, are now becoming Westernised, and set to topple the Carbon Cycle, by overloading the Atmosphere in their push towards Modernisation!!! {Ed.}

Monthly Variation of Carbon Dioxide Concentration:

The cyclic change is caused by the seasonal variation of the growth of vegetation from the Northern Hemisphere. Starting in May the growth of plants and trees uses carbon dioxide, so the concentration decreases a little bit. Starting in October, November the growth ceases, thus causing the carbon dioxide to increase.
