Julia 'Butterfly' Hill, (Are You Up There Still?)

Living in Humboldt County, California during the winter of 98/99 one could not help but to see and hear news reports about a young woman called 'Butterfly', living 180 feet up in an ancient Redwood tree.
As the furious 'El Nino' winter turned into an equally as fierce spring, she remained steadfast in her convictions to remain there until "Luna" (the tree), was saved from the chainsaws.
About five months of this was all my partner and I needed to become appropriately inspired to write a song for her. We sent a cassete up to her and about two weeks later we received a letter from her! She said that she was "greatly honoured and deeply touched."
We sent our song to radio stations up and down the North Coast and it became a sort of an Anthem, of her now famous TREE SIT.
On Dec. 18, 1999, after a little more than 2 years, Julia 'Butterfly's' feet touched the ground, after making an agreement with Pacific Lumber/Maxxam to save Luna and a 200 ft. buffer zone, FOREVER.
